In Nicaragua, a country where nearly 50% of the population lives below the poverty line, families face many challenges.  The cycle of poverty does not limit itself to finances, education, or employment, but penetrates all aspects of family, such as domestic violence, child abuse, and parental ignorance.  Children raised in this environment are at risk for physical, verbal, emotional, psychological, sexual, and spiritual abuse as their families have no foundation on which to weather the storms.  These children grow to be adults who know nothing different, and–without intending to–recreate the same family “structure” they grew up with.

EdificaSion is dedicated to edifying God’s family in Nicaragua.  Children are offered a new perspective on life in contrast to the dangers of their community.  The children receive a loving and positive environment, good schooling, healthcare, and lessons in responsibility.

More importantly, the children learn their value as God’s children, establishing the foundation of their lives on their identity in Jesus Christ.

While EdificaSion seeks generational change, the children’s relationships with their parents are vital.  With the help of a psychologist, EdificaSion reaches out to the parents as well by providing counseling and seminars to help them know their worth as God’s children.  The hope is that once the parents know their identity in Christ, they will have the Foundation on which to rebuild their families.  After all, God does not desire His families be divided, but unified in Christ.
